Expansion joints are products that compensate for thermal expansion and contraction of rails. They are commonly installed at the expansion gap on bridges and at  locations in the track where buckling could occur due to thermal expansion of the rails. Thermal stresses can significantly impair the dimensional accuracy of the rail infrastructure.
